soliloquy
意味: A speech in a play in which a character speaks their thoughts aloud while alone on stage, revealing inner feelings to the audience.
The soliloquy is one of the most powerful dramatic conventions, allowing direct access to a character's private thoughts. Shakespeare's soliloquies are the most famous examples — Hamlet's 'To be or not to be' and Macbeth's 'Tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow' are among the most quoted passages in English literature. The soliloquy differs from a monologue (which is addressed to other characters) and an aside (a brief remark to the audience).
