rationalise
意味: To reorganise a business, system, or process to make it more efficient, often by eliminating redundancies. Also, to justify questionable behaviour or decisions with plausible but insincere reasoning.
Rationalise has two quite different senses. In business and management, it is a euphemism for cutting costs, closing facilities, or making redundancies — 'rationalise the workforce' typically means 'sack people.' In psychology, it describes the cognitive defence mechanism of constructing logical-sounding excuses for irrational behaviour. Context usually makes the intended sense clear, but the word's dual nature gives it a slightly slippery quality.
