morphology
意味: The branch of linguistics that studies the internal structure of words and how they are formed from smaller meaningful units called morphemes.
Morphology examines how prefixes, suffixes, roots, and inflections combine to create words. For instance, the word 'unhappiness' contains three morphemes: un-, happy, and -ness. The field also covers processes such as compounding, derivation, and inflection. Outside linguistics, morphology is used in biology to describe the form and structure of organisms.
