liquidate
意味: To wind up the affairs of a company by converting its assets into cash to pay creditors; more broadly, to settle a debt or convert assets into liquid form.
Liquidate is primarily a legal and financial term. In insolvency, liquidation is the formal process of dissolving a company — a liquidator is appointed to sell assets and distribute proceeds to creditors in order of priority. 'Voluntary liquidation' is initiated by the company itself, while 'compulsory liquidation' is ordered by a court. In investment, to liquidate a position means to sell holdings. The word can also be used informally to mean 'eliminate' or 'destroy,' though this usage is less common in British English.
