haemostasis
意味: The physiological process by which bleeding is stopped, involving vasoconstriction, platelet aggregation, and the coagulation cascade. Also refers to the clinical goal of achieving cessation of bleeding.
Haemostasis involves three overlapping stages: primary haemostasis (platelet plug formation), secondary haemostasis (fibrin clot stabilisation via the coagulation cascade), and fibrinolysis (eventual clot breakdown). Disorders of haemostasis include haemophilia, von Willebrand disease, and thrombocytopenia. In surgery, achieving haemostasis — stopping all bleeding before closing — is a critical step. The British spelling uses 'ae' (American: hemostasis). It collocates with 'primary,' 'secondary,' 'disorders,' and 'surgical.'
