eutrophication
意味: The excessive enrichment of a body of water with nutrients, typically nitrogen and phosphorus, leading to dense plant growth and oxygen depletion.
Eutrophication is most commonly caused by agricultural runoff carrying fertilisers into rivers and lakes. The resulting algal blooms block light and consume oxygen as they decompose, creating dead zones where aquatic life cannot survive. It is one of the most widespread water quality problems in both freshwater and coastal marine environments.
