embolism
意味: The obstruction of a blood vessel by a foreign body, most commonly a detached blood clot (embolus), that has travelled through the bloodstream from its site of origin.
The most dangerous form is pulmonary embolism, in which a clot lodges in the arteries of the lungs, potentially causing sudden death. Emboli can also consist of fat, air, or amniotic fluid. Embolism is closely related to thrombosis but is distinguished by the movement of the obstructing material from one part of the vascular system to another.
