denotation
意味: The literal, primary, or dictionary meaning of a word, as opposed to the feelings or ideas it may suggest.
Denotation is the objective, factual meaning that a word points to, stripped of any emotional or cultural associations. It is typically contrasted with connotation. For example, the denotation of 'snake' is simply a legless reptile, whilst its connotation may include treachery or danger. In semiotics, denotation refers to the first level of meaning in a sign system.
