decadent
意味: Characterised by moral or cultural decline, excessive luxury, and self-indulgent pleasure. Also used more loosely to describe something luxuriously rich or indulgent.
Decadent has two distinct registers. In serious discourse, it describes civilisations, societies, or elites in a state of moral decay — 'the decadent final years of the Roman Empire.' In popular usage, it has been softened into a near-compliment, especially in food writing: 'a decadent chocolate torte.' The Decadent movement in late 19th-century art and literature embraced excess and aestheticism as a deliberate rejection of bourgeois morality.
