cytology
意味: The branch of biology concerned with the study of cells, their structure, function, and chemistry. In clinical medicine, the microscopic examination of cells to detect disease, particularly cancer.
In clinical practice, cytology most commonly refers to the examination of cell samples to screen for or diagnose malignancy. Cervical cytology (the smear test) is one of the most well-known screening programmes in the NHS. Fine needle aspiration cytology extracts cells from lumps for analysis. As a pure science, cytology overlaps significantly with cell biology and histology. The term collocates with 'cervical,' 'exfoliative,' 'aspiration,' and 'screening.'
