colonoscopy
意味: A medical procedure in which a long, flexible tube with a camera (colonoscope) is inserted through the rectum to examine the entire length of the large intestine (colon) for abnormalities such as polyps, inflammation, or cancer.
Colonoscopy is a key tool in bowel cancer screening and is recommended at regular intervals for individuals over a certain age or those with a family history of colorectal disease. During the procedure, biopsies can be taken and polyps removed. In the UK, the NHS Bowel Cancer Screening Programme uses colonoscopy as a follow-up investigation. Patients typically undergo bowel preparation (drinking a laxative solution) the day before.
