admittance
The reciprocal of impedance in an AC circuit, measuring how readily a circuit allows current to flow, expressed in siemens. Also used in general English to mean the right or permission to enter a place.
In electrical engineering, admittance is a complex quantity comprising conductance (the real part) and susceptance (the imaginary part). It simplifies the analysis of parallel circuits, where admittances add directly. The everyday meaning — permission to enter — remains common and predates the technical usage. Signs reading 'No Admittance' are familiar across British public spaces.
例文
- The admittance of the parallel circuit was calculated by summing the admittances of each individual branch.
- A sign reading 'No Admittance Except on Business' was affixed to the door of the restricted laboratory.
- Network analysis using admittance parameters proved more straightforward than the impedance-based approach for this parallel configuration.

From Latin admittere (to send to, let in), combining ad- (to) and mittere (to send). The general English sense dates to the 15th century; the electrical engineering term was introduced by Oliver Heaviside in the 1880s.
