Mixed conditionals and wish structures

はじめに

混合仮定法は、一つの文の中で異なる時間を組み合わせて、過去と現在の複雑な関係を表現できます。「If I had studied medicine, I would be a doctor now.（もし医学を勉強していたら、今頃医者だったのに）」

「wish」と「if only」の構造は、過去・現在・未来それぞれについての願望を表現し、それぞれに独自の文法があります。後悔、フラストレーション、切望を表すのに欠かせない表現です。

日本語の「〜していれば」「〜だったらなぁ」に近いですが、英語では時制の組み合わせでニュアンスが細かく変わります。この上級仮定法をマスターすると、時間を超えた仮定の考えを自由自在に表現できるようになりますよ。
