whether
Significado: Used to express a choice or doubt between alternatives
Whether introduces alternatives or expresses uncertainty. It's used to present choices ('whether to go or stay') or in indirect questions ('I don't know whether he's coming'). 'Whether or not' emphasises that both possibilities are covered. It's more formal than 'if' in many contexts.

Origen e historia
From Old English 'hwæþer' meaning 'which of two', from Proto-Germanic 'hwatharaz'. Related to 'who', 'what', and 'which' — all from the same interrogative root. Despite sounding similar, it is not related to 'weather', which comes from a different Old English word meaning 'wind, storm'.
