Origen e historia
From Latin 'subiectus' meaning 'lying beneath, placed under' (sub- 'under' + jacere 'to throw'). A subject of a king is literally one 'thrown under' their authority. The academic sense developed from the idea of a matter 'placed before' someone for study.
