The verb 'affect' means to have an impact on or influence something. It's commonly confused with 'effect' (a noun meaning result). 'Affect' is nearly always a verb. 'Affected' can also mean artificial or pretentious (an affected accent). Remember: Affect is the Action (verb), Effect is the End result (noun).
