vowel
Significado: A speech sound produced with an open vocal tract, without significant constriction or closure, or a letter of the alphabet representing such a sound (A, E, I, O, U).
Vowels form the nucleus of syllables and carry the main acoustic energy of speech. In phonetics, vowels are classified by tongue height, tongue position, and lip rounding. English has a particularly complex vowel system, with around 20 distinct vowel phonemes in Received Pronunciation, far more than the five letters might suggest.
