tourniquet
Significado: A device or tight bandage applied around a limb to compress blood vessels and stop or restrict the flow of blood, used as an emergency measure to control severe bleeding.
Tourniquets are critical in trauma medicine and military first aid, where rapid haemorrhage control can be lifesaving. After years of being discouraged in civilian first aid due to concerns about tissue damage, tourniquets have been rehabilitated following evidence from military conflicts. The term now appears frequently in public health campaigns promoting 'Stop the Bleed' training. In clinical settings, tourniquets are also used routinely during blood draws and intravenous access to make veins more prominent.
