timbre
Significado: The distinctive quality or character of a sound, especially a musical note or voice, that distinguishes it from others of the same pitch and volume.
Timbre (pronounced 'TAM-buh' in British English) is what allows us to distinguish a violin from a flute playing the same note at the same volume. It is determined by the harmonic overtones present in a sound. In non-technical usage, it frequently describes voices — a rich timbre, a warm timbre, a nasal timbre. Music critics and audio engineers use it as a precise technical term, while writers sometimes use it figuratively to describe the 'tone' of writing or conversation.
