surmise
Significado: To suppose or infer something without sufficient evidence to be certain; an educated guess based on available clues.
Surmise functions as both verb and noun, and implies reaching a conclusion through intuition or incomplete information rather than rigorous analysis. It is softer than 'conclude' and less tentative than 'guess.' In journalism, 'one can only surmise' is a common hedging device. The noun form ('a reasonable surmise') appears in legal and investigative writing.
