soporific
Significado: Tending to induce drowsiness or sleep; extremely boring or tedious. As a noun, a drug or other substance that promotes sleep.
Soporific is used both literally (a soporific drug) and figuratively (a soporific lecture). The figurative use is far more common in everyday writing and is often employed as a witty or cutting way to describe something dreary. It is a favourite of book and theatre critics. Beatrix Potter famously used it in The Tale of Peter Rabbit: 'the soporific effect of eating too much lettuce.' Common collocations include 'soporific effect,' 'soporific tones,' and 'distinctly soporific.'
