seismograph
Significado: An instrument that detects and records the intensity, direction, and duration of ground vibrations, particularly those caused by earthquakes.
A seismograph records seismic waves on a visual trace called a seismogram, while a seismometer is the sensor component that detects the vibrations. In practice, the terms are often used interchangeably in non-specialist contexts. Seismographs are deployed in global networks to monitor tectonic activity, volcanic eruptions, and underground nuclear tests. Figuratively, journalists sometimes describe opinion polls or market indicators as 'political seismographs.'
