pluralism
Significado: A political and social philosophy that recognises and values the coexistence of diverse groups, beliefs, and interests within a single society, supporting their right to maintain distinct identities.
Pluralism stands in contrast to both assimilation (where minorities are expected to conform) and separatism (where groups live apart). In political science, pluralism describes a system where multiple groups compete for influence and power through democratic processes. Religious pluralism accepts the validity of different faiths coexisting. In philosophy, pluralism holds that reality cannot be explained by a single principle. Britain is often described as a pluralist society, though the degree to which this is realised in practice is debated.
