plaintiff
Significado: A person who brings a civil case against another in a court of law. In England and Wales, this role is now officially termed 'claimant.'
The plaintiff (or claimant in modern English law) initiates legal proceedings seeking a remedy, typically compensation or an injunction. The term is contrasted with 'defendant,' the person against whom the case is brought. Although 'claimant' replaced 'plaintiff' in English civil proceedings after the Civil Procedure Rules 1998, 'plaintiff' remains widely used internationally and in general English.
