patronise
Significado: To treat someone with an apparent kindness that betrays a condescending sense of superiority. Also, more formally, to act as a patron by frequenting a business or supporting an artist or cause.
Patronise has two meanings that pull in opposite directions. The dominant modern sense is pejorative — to talk down to someone, to treat them as intellectually or socially inferior: 'don't patronise me.' The older, neutral sense means to be a regular customer of a business or a financial supporter of the arts. In British English, the pejorative sense overwhelmingly dominates, and the adjective 'patronising' is common in everyday speech and journalism.
