Pamphlet occupies a middle ground between a leaflet (a single sheet) and a book. Historically, pamphlets were the primary vehicle for political debate and religious controversy in Britain, from the English Civil War through to the suffrage movement. Today the word can feel slightly dated, often replaced by 'leaflet' or 'brochure' in everyday use, though it retains currency in political and historical writing. 'Pamphleteering' describes the practice of writing and distributing such works.
