isotope
Significado: One of two or more forms of the same chemical element that have equal numbers of protons but different numbers of neutrons in their nuclei, giving them different atomic masses.
Isotopes can be stable or radioactive (radioisotopes). Radioactive isotopes have many practical applications: carbon-14 is used in archaeological dating, iodine-131 in treating thyroid conditions, and uranium-235 in nuclear power generation. The word 'isotopic' is the adjective form. Understanding isotopes is fundamental to nuclear physics, chemistry, and geology.

Origen e historia
From Greek isos (equal) and topos (place), coined by Frederick Soddy in 1913. The name reflects the fact that isotopes of the same element occupy the same place in the periodic table.
