institutionalise
Significado: To establish something as a standard practice within an organisation or society. Also, to place someone in a residential institution such as a hospital or care home for long-term treatment.
Institutionalise carries two quite different senses. In organisational and political contexts, it means embedding a practice or value so firmly that it outlasts any individual: institutionalise accountability, institutionalise reform. This sense is generally positive. The personal sense — institutionalising a vulnerable person — has strongly negative associations with loss of independence and dehumanising care. 'Institutionalised racism' or 'institutionalised discrimination' describes systemic prejudice woven into the fabric of organisations.
