gloss
Significado: An explanation or interpretation of a word or passage, especially one added in the margin of a text; also, a misleadingly favourable presentation of something.
Gloss has two distinct semantic threads. The scholarly sense refers to brief explanatory notes, particularly on archaic or foreign-language texts — medieval manuscripts are full of glosses. The second sense, 'to gloss over,' means to present something in a deceptively positive light or to skim past difficulties. Both senses are widely used in academic and journalistic writing, making context essential for correct interpretation.
