fractal
Significado: A complex geometric pattern that exhibits self-similarity at every scale, meaning that each part resembles the whole when magnified.
Fractals are found throughout nature — in coastlines, snowflakes, fern leaves, blood vessels, and cloud formations. Mathematically, they have fractional dimensions (hence the name) and are generated by simple rules applied repeatedly. The Mandelbrot set, named after Benoit Mandelbrot who popularised the concept in the 1970s, is the most famous example. Fractals have practical applications in computer graphics, antenna design, data compression, and financial modelling. The term has also entered popular culture as a byword for intricate, self-repeating patterns.

Origen e historia
Coined by Benoit Mandelbrot in 1975 from Latin fractus (broken, fragmented), the past participle of frangere (to break). Mandelbrot chose the term to emphasise the fractured, irregular nature of these geometric objects.
