fissile
Significado: Capable of undergoing nuclear fission, especially when struck by a neutron; in geology, tending to split along natural planes of weakness.
In nuclear physics, fissile materials — principally uranium-235 and plutonium-239 — are those whose nuclei can be split by neutrons of any energy, sustaining a chain reaction. This distinguishes them from 'fissionable' materials, which require fast neutrons. The management, enrichment, and non-proliferation of fissile materials are among the most sensitive issues in international security. In geology, fissile rocks (such as shale and slate) split easily into thin layers along bedding planes. The two senses share the underlying concept of splitting apart.
