elude
Significado: To escape from or avoid something, especially by cunning or skill. Also, to fail to be grasped, understood, or remembered by someone.
Elude has two key uses. The first is physical or metaphorical escape — 'the suspect eluded police for months.' The second, subtler meaning is about something that remains just out of reach — 'the answer eluded her,' 'sleep eluded him.' This second sense implies frustration at being unable to grasp or achieve something. Elude must not be confused with 'allude' (to refer to indirectly), a very common error.
