diphthong
Significado: A complex vowel sound that begins with one quality and glides into another within a single syllable, such as the sound in 'coin' or 'loud.'
Diphthongs are distinguished from monophthongs (pure vowels) by the movement of the tongue during pronunciation. English is particularly rich in diphthongs compared to many other languages. In phonetic transcription, diphthongs are represented by two vowel symbols together, such as /aɪ/ for the sound in 'price.'
