bankroll
Significado: To provide the financial backing for a project, venture, or person, especially when the sums involved are substantial.
Bankroll is more informal and vivid than 'fund' or 'finance,' carrying connotations of deep pockets and sometimes questionable motives. It is a favourite of investigative journalists: 'Who bankrolled the campaign?' suggests that the money trail matters as much as the money itself. Originally American, it has been fully absorbed into British journalism and business English. It implies personal or private funding rather than institutional or public finance.
