aquifer
Significado: An underground layer of water-bearing rock or sediment from which groundwater can be extracted using a well.
Aquifers are critical sources of fresh water for drinking, irrigation, and industry. They can be confined (trapped between impermeable layers) or unconfined (where water seeps directly from the surface). Over-extraction and contamination of aquifers pose serious threats to water security in many parts of the world.
