anorexia
Significado: An eating disorder characterised by an obsessive desire to lose weight, severe restriction of food intake, and an intense fear of gaining weight.
The full clinical name is anorexia nervosa. Strictly, 'anorexia' means loss of appetite from any cause, whilst 'anorexia nervosa' refers specifically to the psychiatric condition. It has the highest mortality rate of any mental illness. The condition disproportionately affects young women, though it can occur in anyone regardless of age or gender.
