acculturation
Significado: The process of cultural change and psychological adjustment that occurs when individuals or groups from one culture come into sustained contact with another, often involving the adoption of elements from both cultures.
Acculturation differs from assimilation in that it does not necessarily involve the complete abandonment of one's original culture. Berry's model of acculturation identifies four strategies: integration (maintaining both cultures), assimilation (adopting the new culture), separation (retaining only the original culture), and marginalisation (losing connection to both). The concept is central to migration studies, cross-cultural psychology, and education. Acculturation is always a two-way process, though the dominant culture typically changes less.
