Ultralight backpackers are obsessed with cutting weight. Base weight under 10 pounds is the goal. They use cuben fiber shelters, titanium cookware, and cut their toothbrush handles in half to save grams. 'Going ultralight' means rethinking every item in your pack — do you really need that camp chair? A full change of clothes? Luxury. The ultralight community has its own gear brands (Zpacks, Gossamer Gear), forums (r/Ultralight), and a healthy dose of self-awareness about the obsession.
