Gap year
Significado: A year taken off between high school and college (or during college) for travel, work, or personal growth.
The gap year was traditionally a British and European concept but has become increasingly popular in America. 'I am taking a gap year' used to raise eyebrows but is now seen as mature. Students travel, volunteer, work, or just figure themselves out. Some gap years are structured programs (Americorps, volunteer abroad); others are personal adventures. Harvard and other elite schools even encourage gap years. 'My gap year changed my life' is a common reflection.
