Designated driver
Significado: The person in a group who stays sober to drive everyone home safely.
The designated driver (DD) is a cornerstone of American drinking culture. Before going out, friends decide who'll stay sober and drive. Being the DD is seen as a selfless sacrifice — you're missing out on drinking so your friends get home safe. Many bars offer free soft drinks to designated drivers.
