Word is one of the most versatile AAVE expressions. Said as a statement, it means 'I agree' or 'that's facts.' Said as a question ('Word?'), it means 'really?' or 'is that true?' It can also be used as an oath — 'word is bond' means 'I swear on my word.' The simplicity makes it endlessly useful.
