Trail mix
Meaning: A snack mixture of nuts, dried fruits, seeds, and sometimes chocolate or candy, eaten while hiking.
Trail mix is the ultimate hiking snack — lightweight, calorie-dense, and endlessly customizable. Everyone has their preferred recipe. The classic is nuts, raisins, and M&Ms (called 'gorp' — good old raisins and peanuts). 'Who brought the trail mix?' is asked on every hike. Trail mix has transcended hiking and is now a standard snack food. Custom trail mix bars at grocery stores let you build your own. The ratio of chocolate to nuts is a deeply personal choice.
