Stoop sale
Meaning: A yard sale or garage sale held on the front steps (stoop) of an NYC building, since most New Yorkers don't have yards.
Since most New Yorkers live in apartments without garages or yards, the stoop sale is the urban version of a garage sale. Residents spread their unwanted items on the front steps and sidewalk for neighbors to browse. It's a neighborhood social event as much as a commercial one — a chance to meet neighbors and find deals.
