Regular coffee
Meaning: In NYC, coffee with cream (or milk) and sugar — not black coffee, which is the 'regular' everywhere else.
This is a classic NYC language trap. In most of America, 'regular coffee' means plain black coffee. In New York City — especially at bodegas, delis, and carts — 'regular' means coffee with cream and sugar already added. If you want black coffee in NYC, you have to specifically say 'black.' The distinction has confused countless visitors.
Examples

Origin & History
This NYC convention dates to the heyday of Greek-owned diners and coffee carts in the mid-20th century. Cream and sugar became the 'regular' standard because that's how most working-class New Yorkers took their coffee during the lunch rush.
