Oorah
Meaning: The battle cry of the US Marine Corps, expressing motivation and esprit de corps.
Oorah is to Marines what 'Hooah' is to the Army. It's a spirited shout expressing enthusiasm, agreement, or acknowledgment. Marines use it constantly — in training, in battle, and in everyday conversation. Each branch has its own cry and mixing them up is a faux pas.
Examples
- The Marines charged forward with a thunderous 'Oorah!
- Oorah, sir — we'll have that position secured by nightfall. Oorah, señor — tendremos esa posición asegurada antes del anochecer.
- Once a Marine, always a Marine — oorah!
