No tea, no shade
Meaning: A disclaimer meaning 'no offense' or 'I'm not trying to be disrespectful, but...'
No tea, no shade is said before or after a potentially critical observation to soften the blow. It means 'I'm not gossiping and I'm not being shady — just stating facts.' Of course, what follows is usually somewhat shady. It acknowledges the fine line between honest observation and cattiness.
