Mixtape
Meaning: A self-released collection of songs, especially in hip-hop, often used to build hype or showcase talent outside of a formal album.
Originally a cassette tape of mixed songs made for friends or dates, the mixtape evolved in hip-hop into a way for unsigned artists to distribute music independently. Modern mixtapes are released digitally and can rival full albums in quality. 'Drop a mixtape' means to release one.
