Jarhead
Meaning: A US Marine; slang nickname for Marines.
Originally a mild insult, now often embraced by Marines themselves as a term of identity. The name supposedly comes from the high-and-tight haircut that makes a Marine's head look like a jar, or from the Mason jar-shaped appearance of the old dress uniform collar.
