Grade on a curve
Meaning: To adjust test scores relative to the class average, so that grades are distributed along a bell curve.
Grading on a curve is a common practice in American education where a professor adjusts grades so they follow a statistical bell curve. If everyone bombed the test, the curve can save you. Students love hearing 'it'll be curved.' Outside school, 'curving' means adjusting expectations or standards.
