Forest bathing
Meaning: The practice of spending mindful, immersive time in a forest for health benefits.
Forest bathing (shinrin-yoku) was imported from Japan and has become a wellness buzzword in America. It is not hiking — it is slowly, mindfully walking through a forest, engaging all your senses. No phone, no destination, no fitness goals. Just being present among trees. Research shows it lowers cortisol, blood pressure, and heart rate. 'I went forest bathing' might sound pretentious but the science supports it. Guided forest bathing sessions are offered in parks across the country.
